If you look at the photo on the right, there is a hole in the outer circle created by the laser.
Laser assisted hatching, performed at ACRM with laser technology, assists the embryo during IVF treatment. A tough protective coating called the zona pellucida surrounds eggs and embryos. The embryo must escape or hatch from this coating in order to implant in the wall of the uterus. Assisted hatching is the process of creating a hole in the covering that surrounds the embryo to aid the embryo in the hatching process.
At ACRM we use the latest laser technology to perform assisted hatching, thereby eliminating the risks associated with outdated procedures. Laser hatching is fast, safe, simple and highly repeatable, unlike the old method of hatching that used acidic medium expelled onto the zona to create a small hole.
