Tips to Boost Fertility Naturally

Tips to Boost Fertility Naturally

Are you ready and willing to take the plunge into parenthood? Congratulations! Though we wish there was, unfortunately, there is no easy way to predict just how quickly you'll be seeing that double line on the pregnancy test.

One in eight couples experience infertility problems or find it difficult to conceive. In fact, optimal fertility is affected by a number of factors — from age to medical and pregnancy history.

So to boost your odds of conception, follow these tips below:

1. Stress less.

We know, it’s easier said than done, but look at it from your body’s perspective; stress triggers our natural fight or flight response. This natural reaction prepares our bodies for danger, moving all energy and blood flow towards our muscles and away from digestive and reproductive organs. The problem is the fight or flight response can be triggered by daily life stressors — like rushing to get to a meeting on time or financial troubles.

So how does one avoid these common daily stressors? By changing your perception of daily inconveniences, and saving the alarm bells for something really urgent. Meditation, mindfulness, acupuncture, and yoga are just a few of the ways you can begin to live a more stress-free and calmer life.

2. Eat well.

Maintaining a healthy diet is just as important for fertility as it is for your overall health! Ensure you have enough folic acid, vitamin C, vitamin D, protein, zinc, and iron in your diet. It is especially important to take a prenatal vitamin BEFORE you start trying to conceive. These will provide many of the vitamins you need and help protect against spina bifida developing in the baby.

3. Watch your weight.

Being overweight or underweight can lead to an array of health problems, like disturbing your hormone balance. For men, weight troubles can lead to lower sperm count. For women, the risk of ovulation problems and miscarriage is increased.

4. Keep cool.

Literally! This tip is especially important for men, after all, male reproductive organs are outside of the body for a reason (to keep cooler than our natural body temperature of 98.6 F). Warmer temperatures can damage your sperm, so be cautious to keep things cool “down there.” If you frequently use a laptop, opt for placing it on a desk or table rather than on your lap. Also, be sure to avoid frequent use of hot tubs or long hot baths.

5. Try acupuncture.

Acupuncture has been known to help treat chronic pain, allergies, and even digestive problems — but did you also know when tailored for fertility, some research has shown an improved pregnancy outcome? Not only is acupuncture a safe method for increasing your chances of conception, but it can also increase blood flow in the body and promote relaxation.
