Frequently Asked Questions About Counseling Services

How do I schedule an appointment for a supportive counseling session?
A counseling session may be scheduled through one of our nurses or office schedulers, through the main number (770) 928-2276. You may be asked to state a brief reason for making the appointment so we can be sure to schedule adequate time to address all of your concerns. It's that easy!
Do I need a physician referral?
No, a referral is not necessary for general counseling appointments.
How long will the appointment be?
Counseling sessions are usually 45-50 minutes.
Are these visits confidential?
Yes, information from a supportive counseling session need not be shared with members of the treatment team. If one is in danger of harming oneself or others, then stepping outside the bounds of confidentiality is necessary to keep you safe.
I've never seen a counselor before, what should I expect?
During a counseling session, you may talk about your current concerns, sort out your feelings, identify ways to cope with problems, and work toward effective solutions. Primarily, the goal is to support you and listen to you, and to give you a safe and non-judgmental place to talk about difficult issues.
Do you see couples?
Yes, counseling may include individual and / or couples sessions.
Can I see a counselor for issues other than infertility?
Absolutely. You may schedule an appointment to discuss any concerns that are important to you. It is not unusual for people to be struggling with other issues (family, work, marriage) in addition to their infertility. You can even be seen after your treatment has ended (for example, for anxiety during pregnancy, parenting issues, relationship issues, etc.).
What is the cost of a counseling session?
Session fees vary with the length of the session and the nature of the session (e.g. general counseling, third party consultation, etc.).  Session fees range from  $150 to $265.
How many sessions do I need?
Many patients feel significant improvements in 1 to 3 visits. Most patients are seen for less than 6 visits.
Are these visits covered by my insurance?
Counseling sessions are billed on a fee for service basis, so payment is expected at the time of your appointment. At your request, we will be happy to provide you with a separate statement that you may submit to you insurance company.

Please note that if you have "in-network" coverage with the physicians in our practice, your "in-network" coverage does not include psychological services. You will still need to pay for the session at the time service is rendered. If your plan offers coverage for out-of-network therapists, you may choose to submit the statement to your insurance company for reimbursement.
